Q & A

How would you describe your photographic style? Do you follow a set of rules when you shoot?

I don’t follow strict rules, but unconsciously I always pay attention to light, mood, composition and emotion. I would describe my style as minimalistic, capturing the essence of things.

Any photographers you particularly admire?
Too many to mention. A few examples are Noell Oszvald, Uta Barth, Stephan Vanfleteren, Bert Danckaert, Nadav Kander, Gilbert Garcin, Roger Ballen, Desiree Dolron, Julian Germain, Sally Mann, etc.

What inspires you to shoot?
Often it’s nature, diverse weather and remote places

What advice would you give to aspiring photographers?
Developing your own style is important and will make you stand out in the crowd. I believe that the best way to develop your own style is to stay true to yourself when shooting. If it moves you chances are it will also move others.

Where do you currently live and work?
Currently living in Belgium and I do most of my work in the Netherlands.

What did you study – and how I got into photography?
I studied Photography at an Academy for Fine Arts in the Netherlands. At the time I already was very much into photography but studying at the academy boosted my creativity. Especially because of the feedback from fellow students and teachers.

Any cool projects you’re currently working on?
I’m working on a photo book. Commercially this is challenging and I’m considering alternative ways to create a beautiful book for those who would be interested.
